About

Sliced Bread Animation, based in Shoreditch, London, is a new breed of animation company, which is highly experienced in incorporating animation within interactive solutions for the web, for either commercial and marketing, presentation and training or entertaining purposes – or a mixture of all of these together. Our clients enjoy the quality of creative talent and technical expertise they would have from working with senior animators in a large established animation house but without the massive overheads. Or the hassles. It is why our client list includes names like Sony, BT, Adidas, Burger King, the Department of Education, Sky, the BBC and Channel 4.

Our size and ethos mean you’ll notice a very refreshing and intensely creative approach to everything we do. We’re responsive, flexible and dependable. And we have never missed a deadline.

In 2004 Sony commissioned Sliced Bread to produce an animated 25 part online series called Trona, which were broadcast weekly on the Sony website. The animation had 200,000 viewers weekly and the average viewing time lasted 6 min. The series was so successful that it was rolled out to further 20 countries on top of the initial 5 – UK, France, Spain, Germany and Italy.

Sony Europe said:

“Sliced Bread were exceptional in that they recognize and utilize marketing theory as an essential tool to deliver the best solutions for clients such as Sony. Whereas we would normally arrive at a solution by talking to marketing agencies, Sliced Bread were able to deliver on both our objectives: create a ‘buzz’ around the My Sony membership program and acquire new members. We saw several very well executed creative ideas — and some did allude to ways in which an online animated series could elicit new members. However Sliced Bread went further. They seemed to get inside the Sony brand first to understand what makes people (our customers) tick. They then delivered a proposal that not only suggested excellent creative characterizations and plot lines, but was supported by interesting and forward thinking research.”

Sky Gamestar said:

Loveable spuds “Ed and Fred” were created by London animation company Sliced Bread Animation to appeal to primary school kids and their mums. The dumpy duo, who sit in a field reporting on the weekly activities at Gamestar, have gained cult status within Sky, which is considering bringing them back for more action.

Sky Gamestar praised the Sliced Bread team for their creative, practical approach and for being realistic and honest about deadlines and delivery dates.

“On a tight schedule like ours, that’s a godsend,” said Mr Pilkington. “They also came in with a pitch that made us laugh and had buckets of personality.”

“The idea behind Ed and Fred was to create two characters presenting what’s new on Sky Gamestar. We wanted to get the viewers curious about what the characters were up to next. So we came up with two harmless, well meaning fools, one of whom thinks he’s cleverer than the other – a bit like Laurel and Hardy.” says Sliced Bread’s Project Director Jamie Denham.
